Bungarus (kraits)
Bungarus, commonly known as kraits, are highly venomous snakes found in South and Southeast Asia. They are characterized by their slender bodies and distinctive color patterns, often with shiny black or dark brown backgrounds with white or silver bands. Kraits are primarily nocturnal and prefer to hide during the day. Their venom contains powerful neurotoxins that can inhibit nerve signals, potentially leading to paralysis or death if not treated promptly. Despite their dangerous venom, kraits are generally shy and non-aggressive, rarely biting unless threatened. Proper medical attention is critical if bitten.
