Buginese expansion
Buginese expansion refers to the historical migration and cultural spread of the Bugis people from the province of South Sulawesi in Indonesia. This movement, particularly from the 17th to the 19th century, saw the Bugis establishing trade, agriculture, and political influence throughout the Indonesian archipelago, as well as parts of Malaysia and the Philippines. Their skilled navigation and maritime traditions allowed them to engage in seafaring trade and settle in new regions. This expansion significantly impacted local cultures and economies, leading to the establishment of Bugis communities and their integration into broader Southeast Asian history.
