Buckeyes

Buckeyes are the seeds of the Ohio buckeye tree, scientifically known as Aesculus glabra. They are round, glossy, brown nuts with a distinctive light-colored patch on one side, resembling a buck's eye—hence the name. Native to Ohio and surrounding regions, buckeyes are often used as symbols of Ohio State University and the state itself. While they are generally safe to handle, they contain small amounts of toxins that can be harmful if ingested in large quantities. The tree and its seeds are appreciated for their ornamental value and historical significance.
