Buchholz Relay
A Buchholz relay is a safety device used in oil-filled electrical transformers and reactors. It detects faults such as oil leaks or electrical faults inside the device by monitoring the oil’s movement and pressure changes. When a fault occurs, gases or oil vapor are released and rise into a detection chamber, triggering the relay. This causes an alarm or automatic shutdown to prevent further damage or failure. Essentially, it acts as an early warning system, helping maintain the safe and reliable operation of the transformer by sensing internal problems before they cause serious issues.
