Bubble boy disease

Bubble Boy disease, or Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), is a rare genetic disorder that severely impairs the immune system. Individuals with SCID lack functional T and B lymphocytes, which are crucial for fighting infections. This makes them extremely vulnerable to common germs, often leading to severe, potentially life-threatening infections early in life. Without treatment, such as a bone marrow transplant, these children cannot effectively defend themselves, and exposure to normal environments can be dangerous. Advances in medical science, especially gene therapy and early diagnosis with newborn screening, have significantly improved outcomes for children with SCID.
