Bt toxin
Bt toxin is a natural protein produced by the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis. When insects such as certain caterpillars or beetles ingest plants engineered to contain Bt genes, the toxin activates in their guts, damaging their intestinal lining and ultimately causing their death. Farmers use Bt as a biological insecticide to protect crops without relying on chemical pesticides. Because it specifically targets certain insect pests and is safe for humans, animals, and most other insects, Bt is considered an environmentally friendly pest control option. Its use helps reduce chemical pesticide dependence while managing pest populations effectively.
