
Brown, George (1790-1860)
George Brown (1790–1860) was a Canadian politician and journalist who played a key role in shaping Toronto's development. He co-founded the Toronto Globe newspaper and used it to advocate for responsible government, education reform, and independence for the colonies from Britain. Brown was also a leader in the movement to unify Upper and Lower Canada into one federation, which eventually became modern Canada.
