Brown adipose tissue

Brown adipose tissue, or brown fat, is a special type of fat found in humans, primarily in infants and some adults. Unlike white fat, which stores energy, brown fat burns calories to produce heat, helping maintain body temperature. It contains numerous tiny blood vessels and a high number of mitochondria, the energy-producing structures that give it its color. When activated, brown fat generates heat through a process called thermogenesis, especially in response to cold exposure. This unique ability makes brown fat important for temperature regulation and potentially useful for weight management if harnessed effectively.
