British Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF)

The Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) was a British women's military organization established during World War II, specifically in 1939. Its purpose was to support the Royal Air Force (RAF) by allowing women to take on various non-combat roles. WAAF members worked in areas such as communications, engineering, logistics, and administration, freeing up male personnel for combat duties. Over 200,000 women served in the WAAF throughout the war, greatly contributing to the war effort and helping to challenge societal norms regarding women's roles in the military and workforce. The WAAF was disbanded in 1949, later integrating into the RAF.
