British Landed Gentry

The British landed gentry were a class of wealthy landowners who held significant social status but did not possess aristocratic titles like peers. Traditionally, they owned large estates and played key roles in local governance, economy, and society. Their wealth was primarily derived from land, agriculture, and rents, enabling them to enjoy privileges and influence within their communities. Although they were below the aristocracy in hierarchy, they were important figures in rural Britain from the medieval period through the 19th century, often serving as local magistrates, members of Parliament, and community leaders.
