British Home Guard

The British Home Guard was a volunteer auxiliary force established during World War II to defend the UK from invasion and support regular military forces. Comprising mostly civilians who were ineligible for regular service due to age or health, they underwent basic training and operated in local defense roles such as guarding key locations, assisting in patrols, and maintaining civil order. Their efforts helped bolster national security during a critical period, providing a resilient, community-based defense mechanism alongside the professional armed forces. The Home Guard was officially disbanded after the war in 1945.
