British Board of Film Classification (BBFC)

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is the organization responsible for classifying films and video works in the UK. Established in 1912, its primary role is to provide age ratings, such as U (Universal), PG (Parental Guidance), 12A, 15, and 18, indicating the suitability of content for different audiences. The BBFC reviews films for their themes, language, violence, and sexual content, aiming to protect viewers, particularly children, from inappropriate material. While it informs the public, it does not ban films outright, as filmmakers retain the right to show their works in cinemas and distribute them.
