Brioni Agreements
The Brioni Agreements, signed in July 1991, were a set of political accords in Croatia aimed at halting hostilities during the country's struggle for independence from Yugoslavia. They established a ceasefire, called for negotiations, and sought to create a framework for peaceful resolution and autonomy for regions with mixed ethnic populations. While intended to stabilize the situation, later events showed that the agreements did not fully prevent conflict, as violence resumed shortly after. Overall, they marked an effort to reduce tensions and promote dialogue during a turbulent period of Croatia’s path to independence.
