Brinton's disease
Brinton's disease, also known as neuromyelitis optica or NMO, is an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers in the optic nerves and spinal cord. This leads to inflammation and damage, causing vision loss, weakness, and paralysis. It's distinct from multiple sclerosis but can have similar symptoms. The condition often requires medical treatment to reduce immune system activity, prevent relapses, and manage symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to improve outcomes and prevent permanent nerve damage.
