Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal
The Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal was a historic waterway in Wales, completed in the early 19th century to connect Brecon to the River Wye at Monmouth. It facilitated the transportation of goods like coal, limestone, and agricultural products, boosting regional trade during the Industrial Revolution. Although it was eventually superseded by railways and largely fell into disuse by the 20th century, parts of the canal remain today as historical sites and nature trails, reflecting its importance in Wales’ industrial heritage and engineering history.
