Breaching Experiments

Breaching experiments are social research methods where researchers intentionally break social norms or expectations to observe how people react. The purpose is to understand the underlying rules that govern everyday interactions and behaviors. For example, a researcher might stand very close to someone or speak in an unusual tone to see how others respond. These experiments reveal how social order is maintained, how individuals enforce norms, and how people navigate unfamiliar or unexpected situations in society.
