brainstem auditory evoked responses
Brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER) are measurements of the brain’s electrical activity in response to sounds. When a sound is played, nerves in the ear send signals to the brainstem, which processes the information. By placing small electrodes on the scalp, technicians can record these electrical signals to assess how well the auditory pathway functions. BAER testing is used to detect hearing loss, neurological problems, or issues with how the brain processes sounds. It’s a non-invasive, objective way to evaluate the integrity of the auditory system from the ear through the brainstem.
