brain edema

Brain edema, or swelling of the brain, occurs when excess fluid builds up in the brain tissue. This increases pressure within the skull, which can disturb normal brain functions and damage brain cells. Swelling can result from injury, infections, tumors, or other medical conditions. Symptoms may include headache, nausea, altered mental state, or neurological deficits. Since the skull is a fixed space, any swelling can be serious, requiring prompt medical attention. Treatment aims to reduce the swelling, control the underlying cause, and prevent further brain injury.
