Brahui language
Brahui is a Dravidian language primarily spoken by the Brahui people in southwestern Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan. Despite being geographically surrounded by Indo-Iranian languages like Balochi and Sindhi, Brahui has maintained its unique linguistic identity. It features distinctive phonology and vocabulary that set it apart from neighboring languages. Brahui is passed down through generations, serving as a vital part of cultural identity for its speakers. While relatively small in number—around 2 million speakers—it represents an important example of linguistic persistence and diversity in South Asia.
