Brahmi Script
Brahmi script is an ancient writing system from India, dating back around 3rd century BCE. It is considered the earliest script that laid the foundation for many Indian alphabets, including Devanagari. Brahmi uses a set of characters to represent consonants and vowels, with symbols that evolved over time. Its development marked a transition from pictorial to more abstract characters, enabling the recording of language in a standardized way. Brahmi's influence extended beyond India, impacting scripts used in Southeast Asia and Central Asia. Today, it is studied mainly by linguists and historians as a key element in understanding early Indian literacy and script development.
