Brønsted base

A Brønsted base is a substance that can accept a proton (a hydrogen ion, H⁺) in a chemical reaction. Think of it as a molecule or ion eager to grab a proton from another substance. This concept helps understand how acids and bases interact: acids donate protons, while bases accept them. For example, in water, a compound that pulls a hydrogen ion away from a nearby molecule would be acting as a Brønsted base. This idea provides a straightforward way to predict and describe chemical reactions involving proton transfers.
