Bowl Championship Series (BCS)

The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was a system used in college football from 1998 to 2013 to determine the top teams and shape the national championship. It combined polls, computer rankings, and conference championships to select the two best teams for the BCS National Championship Game. The goal was to ensure the most deserving teams competed for the title, but it faced criticism for sometimes excluding unbeaten teams. The BCS was replaced by the College Football Playoff in 2014, which uses a bracket of four teams chosen by a selection committee to decide the national champion.
