Boston Brahmins

The Boston Brahmins, also known as the Boston elite or old Yankee gentry, were a social class of wealthy, influential families in Boston from the 17th to early 20th centuries. They often belonged to old, established Puritan-descended lineages, valued education, tradition, and cultural refinement. Known for their prominent roles in business, politics, and society, they helped shape Boston’s intellectual and social landscape. Although their influence waned over time, the Boston Brahmins remain symbols of longstanding social prominence and conservative values within American history.
