Boston Big Dig
The Boston Big Dig was a massive public infrastructure project aimed at improving the city’s traffic flow and reducing congestion. Started in the 1990s, it involved rerouting the Central Artery (I-93), a major highway, underground, and constructing the Ted Williams Tunnel to connect Boston to Logan Airport. The project transformed the cityscape, creating new public spaces, parks, and improved highways. Although it faced significant delays, cost overruns, and controversies, it ultimately revitalized downtown Boston and enhanced urban life by reducing highway noise and freeing up land for development.
