Bosnian history
Bosnia has a complex history shaped by its diverse populations—Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs—and its strategic location in Southeastern Europe. It was part of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom, later controlled by the Ottoman Empire for centuries, which influenced its culture and religion. In the 20th century, it became a republic within Yugoslavia, experiencing tension and conflict as Yugoslavia dissolved. The 1990s Bosnian War (1992–1995) was marked by ethnic violence and atrocities. Since then, Bosnia has worked towards peace and stability, balancing its rich multicultural heritage with political reforms and international support.
