Border Reivers

Border Reivers were, mainly during the late Middle Ages and early modern period, raiders and lawless families operating along the border between England and Scotland. They engaged in cattle thievery, raiding, and feuding, often acting outside the law due to weak border control. The Reivers formed tight-knit kin groups, and their actions were driven by economic needs, revenge, and regional rivalries. Despite their notoriety, they also played a role in shaping the culture and history of the border region, blending elements of hardy independence and rugged resilience. Their era declined by the 17th century with increased law enforcement and border stability.
