Booker T. & the M.G.’s was an influential American band from the 1960s, known for pioneering instrumental R&B and soul music. Consisting of Booker T. Jones (organ), Steve Cropper (guitar), Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums), they served as Stax Records’ house band, backing many famous artists. Their smooth, groove-oriented sound is exemplified in hits like "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" and "Green Onions." They are credited with shaping the sound of Southern soul and influencing genres like funk and rock, while also being one of the first racially integrated bands to achieve major success.
