Bone Marrow Transplantation in Children

Bone marrow transplantation in children involves replacing diseased or damaged marrow—the tissue inside bones that produces blood cells—with healthy bone marrow from a donor. This process can treat conditions like leukemia, certain genetic disorders, or other blood diseases. The transplant aims to restore the child's ability to produce healthy blood cells, fighting infection and supporting overall health. Before the procedure, patients undergo treatment to destroy their faulty marrow. The new marrow is then infused into the child's bloodstream, where it finds its way to the bones and begins producing healthy blood cells over time.
