Bone Density Scans

A bone density scan measures the strength and thickness of your bones, typically using a low-dose X-ray technology called dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). It assesses bone mineral content, helping to diagnose conditions like osteoporosis and evaluate fracture risk. The procedure is quick, painless, and involves lying still on a machines for about 10-15 minutes. Results are reported as a T-score, comparing your bone density to a healthy young adult, or a Z-score, comparing to peers your age. Regular scans can help detect bone loss early, allowing for timely interventions to maintain bone health.
