Bombardeo de Guernica
The Bombardeo de Guernica was an aerial attack carried out on April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. German and Italian warplanes bombed the Basque town of Guernica, causing widespread destruction and killing hundreds of civilians. This attack was one of the first examples of modern aerial warfare targeting civilians, intended to weaken political resistance. The devastation deeply shocked the world and inspired Pablo Picasso’s famous painting "Guernica," which powerfully depicts the horrors and chaos of the bombing, becoming a symbol of anti-war sentiment.
