Image for BOLD fMRI

BOLD fMRI

BOLD fMRI (Blood Oxygen Level Dependent functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a technique that measures brain activity by detecting changes in blood oxygen levels. When a brain region is active, it consumes more oxygen, prompting increased blood flow to that area. This change in oxygen levels affects the magnetic properties of blood, which the MRI scanner detects, creating images that show which parts of the brain are active during specific tasks or experiences. BOLD fMRI provides valuable insights into brain function by highlighting areas involved in different cognitive, emotional, or sensory processes.
