Bohdan Khmelnytsky

Bohdan Khmelnytsky was a Ukrainian leader in the 17th century who led a rebellion against Polish rule, aiming to gain independence for Ukraine. He was a skilled military strategist and formed alliances, notably with Russia, to strengthen his cause. Khmelnytsky's uprising resulted in the creation of a semi-autonomous Ukrainian state under the Treaty of Pereiaslav in 1654. His leadership is considered pivotal in Ukrainian history, symbolizing the struggle for sovereignty and self-determination.
