Body snatching

Body snatching refers to the illicit practice of exhuming recently buried bodies, often without permission, typically to supply dissecting rooms for medical schools. During the 18th and 19th centuries, high demand for cadavers to study human anatomy led to illegal activities where grave robbers, known as body snatchers, would dig up corpses and sell them. This practice caused significant public outrage and legal reforms. Today, body snatching is illegal, and ethically sourced cadavers are used for medical research and education under strict regulation.
