BOD Test
The Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) test measures the amount of oxygen that bacteria will consume while breaking down organic matter in water over a specific period, usually five days. It helps assess the level of pollution caused by organic substances in water bodies, indicating water quality. Higher BOD values suggest more organic pollution, which can deplete oxygen needed by aquatic life. The test involves incubating a water sample in controlled conditions and then measuring the decrease in dissolved oxygen. It’s a key indicator used to evaluate and maintain healthy water ecosystems and ensure water treatment effectiveness.
