Bochdalek hernia
A Bochdalek hernia is a type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia where a defect occurs in the diaphragm — the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. This defect allows abdominal organs, such as intestines or liver, to move into the chest cavity during fetal development. It can cause breathing difficulties in newborns due to the compression of lungs by displaced organs. Bochdalek hernias are typically diagnosed with imaging tests like X-rays or ultrasounds and often require surgical repair to correct the diaphragm and reposition the organs, ensuring normal lung growth and function.
