Blueshift refers to the phenomenon where light from an object in space appears shift toward the blue end of the spectrum. This happens when the object emitting the light is moving toward us, causing the light waves to compress and shorten. As a result, the light's wavelength becomes smaller, shifting its color toward blue. Blueshift helps scientists understand the movement of celestial objects, such as galaxies or stars, indicating they are approaching us. It’s the opposite of redshift, which occurs when objects move away, stretching the light to red wavelengths.
