Block Grants

Block grants are funds provided by the federal government to state or local governments for broad purposes, such as education or healthcare. Unlike specific grants that cover narrowly defined activities, block grants give authorities flexibility to decide how best to use the money within the general category. This allows local officials to tailor programs to their community’s needs while receiving financial support from the federal level. Essentially, block grants simplify funding by consolidating multiple targeted grants into one, giving more control to local decision-makers to address their unique priorities.
