Bladder Cancer Surgery

Bladder cancer surgery involves removing tumors from the bladder, which is a hollow organ that stores urine. The type of surgery depends on how advanced the cancer is. For early-stage cancer, a procedure called transurethral resection may be done, where surgeons remove the tumor through the urethra. For more invasive cases, a cystectomy, which is the removal of part or all of the bladder, may be necessary. After surgery, patients may need follow-up treatments, like chemotherapy, to prevent the cancer from returning. The goal is to eliminate the cancer and preserve bladder function when possible.
