Blackface

Blackface is a practice where non-Black individuals apply makeup or costumes to imitate Black people, often exaggerating features for entertainment purposes. Historically, it originated in minstrel shows in the 19th century, where performers used Blackface to mock and stereotype Black people, reinforcing racial prejudices. Today, blackface is widely considered offensive because it perpetuates harmful stereotypes, trivializes racial experiences, and disrespects Black communities. Its use is often viewed as a form of racial insensitivity or racism, leading many to oppose its display or depiction in any context.
