Black woman suffrage

Black woman suffrage refers to the fight for voting rights by Black women, who faced dual discrimination due to race and gender. Despite the 15th Amendment granting Black men the right to vote in 1870, Black women were often excluded through laws and practices like poll taxes and literacy tests. Their efforts, including activism and protests, contributed to the eventual ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women the right to vote. However, it was also through the ongoing work of Black women activists that voting rights became more accessible, highlighting the intersectional struggle for equality.
