Black Sox Scandal

The Black Sox Scandal was a major baseball controversy in 1919 when several Chicago White Sox players conspired to intentionally lose the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, in exchange for money from gamblers. This betting fix tarnished the sport’s integrity, leading to widespread distrust. When the scheme was uncovered, all eight involved players were banned from professional baseball for life, and the scandal prompted reforms to improve the sport’s integrity and oversight. It remains one of the most famous scandals in sports history.
