Black Muslims
Black Muslims are individuals of African descent who practice Islam, the monotheistic religion founded in the 7th century in Arabia. Many Black Muslims follow specific movements, such as the Nation of Islam, which emerged in the 1930s aiming to promote Black empowerment and self-sufficiency within an Islamic framework. Others practice mainstream Sunni or Shia Islam. Black Muslims often emphasize cultural identity, social justice, and community activism, integrating their faith with experiences of racial pride and liberation. They represent diverse backgrounds and beliefs, united by their faith in Islam and a shared cultural heritage.
