Black Loyalists
Black Loyalists were Black individuals in North America who remained loyal to Britain during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Many fought alongside British forces or supported the Loyalist cause because they sought freedom from slavery or better treatment. After the war, Britain promised freedom to enslaved people who supported them, leading to the evacuation of thousands to places like Nova Scotia and other parts of the Caribbean. These Black Loyalists played a significant role in shaping early Canadian history and communities, contributing to the diverse cultural fabric of the region.
