Black Identity Development model
The Black Identity Development (BID) model describes the stages Black individuals may experience as they explore and understand their racial identity. It recognizes a journey from feeling disconnected or unaware of racial influence, to developing positive pride in Black culture, and eventually integrating this identity into their overall sense of self. The model helps us understand how people navigate societal perceptions and personal understanding of race, fostering confidence, resilience, and a deeper appreciation of Black history and culture as part of their identity.
