Black Hundreds

The Black Hundreds were a far-right, ultraconservative and nationalist movement in late Imperial Russia, active mainly from 1905 to 1917. They supported the autocratic monarchy, opposed liberal reforms, and promoted anti-Semitic, anti-communist ideas. Often associated with violent actions such as pogroms (attacks on Jewish communities), they aimed to preserve traditional Russian values and hierarchy. Their influence grew during political unrest, and they acted as a reactionary force against modernization and democratization efforts, ultimately contributing to the tension and chaos leading up to the Russian Revolution.
