Black Hawk War
The Black Hawk War of 1832 was a brief conflict between the United States and Native American tribes led by Chief Black Hawk of the Sauk and Fox nations. Tensions arose as Native Americans tried to resist forced relocation from their ancestral lands in Illinois. Black Hawk and his followers crossed the Mississippi River into Illinois, prompting U.S. military forces to respond. The war lasted a few months, resulting in U.S. victory, the displacement of Native tribes, and the loss of their traditional territories. It highlighted the ongoing struggles over land and sovereignty during westward expansion.
