Black Arts Repertory Theatre

The Black Arts Repertory Theatre was an organization founded in 1965 by poet and activist Amiri Baraka (then LeRoi Jones). It aimed to promote Black culture, arts, and political empowerment, serving as a platform for Black artists and writers to express their identity and challenge racial injustices. Based in Harlem, New York, the theater sought to foster pride and self-determination through creative work that reflected Black experiences. It played a significant role in the Black Arts Movement, emphasizing art as a tool for social change and cultural affirmation.
