BiVAD (Biventricular Assist Device)
A Biventricular Assist Device (BiVAD) is a mechanical pump system that supports both the right and left sides of the heart, which are responsible for pumping blood to the lungs and the rest of the body, respectively. When the heart's chambers are too weak to function properly, a BiVAD helps by actively moving blood, improving circulation and oxygen delivery. It’s often used as a temporary solution for patients waiting for a heart transplant or as a bridge to recovery. The device ensures vital organs receive adequate blood flow, reducing symptoms of heart failure and supporting overall stability.
