
Bishop John Neumann
Bishop John Neumann (1811–1860) was a Hungarian-born Catholic bishop who became a key figure in the 19th-century American Church. Known for his dedication to education and evangelization, he founded the first Catholic diocesan school system in the U.S. and was a passionate supporter of immigrant communities, especially Germans and Italians. Neumann emphasized pastoral care, catechesis, and social outreach, earning respect for his humility and organizational skills.
