BIS (Bispectral Index)

The Bispectral Index (BIS) is a monitoring tool used during anesthesia to assess a patient's level of consciousness. It interprets brain activity through EEG (electroencephalogram) signals and provides a numerical score from 0 to 100, where lower numbers indicate deeper sedation or unconsciousness. This helps anesthesiologists adjust medication doses precisely, ensuring the patient is neither under- nor over-sedated, enhancing safety. BIS monitoring offers real-time feedback, improving anesthesia management by tracking brain function and reducing the risk of awareness during surgery.
